WHAT IS SALT SPRAY CHAMBER?
A salt spray chamber is a laboratory equipment which is used to evaluate corrosion resistance on metal surfaces such as different types of coating and paint etc. as per ASTMB117 standard. Industries related to manufacturing of metal parts including fasteners, nuts & bolts, screws, variety of tools, aircraft and automobile parts etc. are major consumers of salt spray chamber.
WORKING PRINCIPLE OF SALT SPRAY CHAMBER
An artificial corrosion environment is created in the salt spray chamber using constant spray of salt spray and under 35°C temperature of main chamber and 47°C air saturator or brine tank with 95% humidity.

IMPORTANT PARTS OF SALT SPRAY CHAMBER
Main chamber: Main chamber is made of thick PVC plastic which is corrosion resistant. Main chamber also have water over flow valve and cleaning drain valve. There is also an air tight closing lid with transparent window, which is manually operated or pneumatically operated depending upon the model features.
Brine Tank: It is also called salt solution reservoir where Sodium Chloride (NaCl) and water solution is kept to generate salt fog; ideal combination is 500gm NaCl in 9.5L water.
Spray Nozzle & fog collector: Glass nozzle is fitted to spray salt fog with the help of pressure regulator. Compressed air pressure (1 bar) is provided to generate fog spray. A fog collector is a device to measure fog condensation rate 1–2 ml/hr per 80 cm² as per ASTM standard.
Safety Features: Over temperature safety and low water level safety protections are important features.
Sample Holder: V shape and O shape rods are provided to keep samples at 15°C to 30° tilt position in order to optimized fog exposure to the samples.
Control panel: Control panel is fitted on right side of the equipment in which temperature controllers are fitted to control temperature of main chamber and the brine tank, salt fog test timer and some ON/OFF switches for machine on/off, timer on/off and defog. Low water level indicators are also there. Color touch screen controller with data recording is an optional part.
